Chem 122-Today we will go over the notes/theory on Ka and Kb and Kw. I will assign some questions from the long page handout that we worked on early in the unit. The last part of the class will involve working in pairs on predicting acid/base equilibria. We will likely be starting labs next tuesday and wednesday...then group review the following monday followed by a test on tuesday and the last two days of labs on wednesday and thursday. Chem 112- Good question asked by student in period 3- The isotope problems were not listed on the problems for the midterm. Are they on the midterm? You will work with a partner on the Solvay Process work that leads up to an assignment: Make an information pamphlet on the Solvay Process which informs someone about the Solvay Process and how important it is to every day life. It should be colourful creative, neat and make someone want to read it. Use pictures/ diagrams and show the history, the process and products, byproducts and list references on the back. You may decide to create your pamphlet on the computer. Day 40Chem 122-Today we will go over the notes/theory on Ka and Kb and Kw. I will assign some questions from the long page handout that we worked on early in the unit. The last part of the class will involve working in pairs on predicting acid/base equilibria. We will likely be starting labs next tuesday and wednesday...then group review the following monday followed by a test on tuesday and the last two days of labs on wednesday and thursday. This means the midterm will likely be on or about the 22nd of november. Assigned questions from long sheet that had the oranges, asparagus question. Please turn the sheet sideways for the questions. I do not have the page home with me 6a,6b 7,8,9,10, but please check with a fellow classmate if you did not copy the questions down when I listed them to you in class.
Chem 112- Good question asked by student in period 3- The isotope problems were not listed on the problems for the midterm. Are they on the midterm? Answer: Yes finding mass, number of protons and neutrons and electrons can easily be incorporated into a multiple choice question. Please check some practise multiple choice questions like this at

We will spend half of the class in groups of 3 to 4 people doing practise type questions for the midterm. I will also go over a sealed flask question. There is a practise question on the mole worksheet(top right by picture of the mole ) Please do #3 all. Special Note to Period 5: We were unable to have a class today because of the power outage. Please copy the sealed flask example below into your notebook. You should also try to follow this example and do #3 from the worksheet tha has the sketch of the mole on it.(The same worksheet that had three other worksheets on it...mole conversions and balancing)
Chem 121-We will also go over another energy calculation that is like a calorimeter calculation and a calculation where energy from a reaction is used find out energy produced for a certain amount of a substance. I will assign 10b and 13.(You will add 13 to your page). You will complete candle mini lab tomorrow. We will finish the pair work from the blue booklet.

Chem 112- My plan was to continue on with new work today as I really must get the curriculum content covered that the Province Curriculum dictates, but I will assign some of this for homework over your 4 day weekend. This will enable us to do some more practise for the midterm.(Period 3 will have a Remembrance Day ceremony during this time slot on wednesday). Please check tomorrow to see what I have assigned for homework over the four days you have off.Chem 121-We will spend some time doing group review for wednesday's test. The other part of the class we will collect data for finding the enthalpy of combustion for candle wax burning using the GLX s and Data Studio in the lab.
Chem 122-Assignment due today.We are going to start labs on tuesday(tomorrow). Would you please note that for Chapter 19.1 to 19.3, there will be a test next tuesday. We will go over a prelab today and highlight titrations. In class work will involve a quiz on the 5 step method(this will happen next monday) and going over the calculation questions from your homework friday(these questions are to be completed on looseleaf for tomorrow in order to gain entrance to the lab).

Chem 112- As there was an assembly last wednesday, period three will have an intro to empirical formula. Chem 112-We will spend some more time on Lewis electron dot diagrams. We will go over one of the five questions from monday, tuesday and wednesdays homework questions. You will work with a partner on the Solvay Process work that leads up to an assignment: Make an information pamphlet on the Solvay Process which informs someone about the Solvay Process and how important it is to every day life. It should be colourful creative, neat and make someone want to read it. Use pictures/ diagrams and show the history, the process and products, byproducts and list references on the back. You may decide to create your pamphlet on the computer. Due date: Next wednesday....Dec 1 (please note that you will not be able to go into the lab on wednesday if this is not submitted on wednesday...unfortunately I have no choice but to impose this restriction because I have a few procrastinators in each class who have not been passing in assignments)

Chem 112-Today you will work with a partner on the Solvay Process and get a great start on your research for your pamphlet(Brochure). We went over the Lewis dot / structure diagrams for #7 and 8 a from the handout. Please complete 8d to h for monday. I introduced polar/non polar briefly and also briefly went over determining number of bonds.
Chem 121-Today we will go over Ksp. Please do #1 to 3 from the bottom of the newest handout. The Ksp/Ka assignment is due next wednesday.

Day 54Chem 122-Today we will start alkenes. You will have some more time to work on the isomers of C7 and C8. You will receive a practise worksheet on alkanes and alkenes. Isomers ar due tomorrow.
Chem 112-We will do our pre-lab for tomorrow. Please make sure the 10 reactions are ready for tomorrow. You will need to submit them to me to gain entrance to the lab. We will go over titration and how to interpret/ read the buret volume as well as the terminology endpoint, indicator, standard solution and acid base neutralization. P 5 has not got gotten the notes on Law of Conservation Of mass yet.

Chem 112- Today we will complete VSEPR with trigonal bipyramid and octahedral shapes. You will receive a few more questions to go over on VSEPR. Chem 112- Today we will tie up loose end with gases. We will overview the formula n=v/V and do the B questions from the handout. The Law" Dalton's Law of Partial pressures will be overviewed. We will look at how the ideal gas law at two sets of conditions can be used to derive the laws that you went over...Boyle's, Charles, Gay-Lussav and The Combined Gas Law. There are a few good questions in the C section of the handout.
